The Texas legislature is now (May 11, 2017) considering a bill - SB 1849 - which addresses police training. We support expanded crisis intervention training (CIT) and are asking that it include :

1. All incoming 2018 cadets must take 40 hrs of CIT de-escalation training, followed by an 8 hr update once every 2 years.

2. All officers that service any educational campus must take the 40 hour CIT class

3. All jailers, as overseers of the mentally ill incarcerated, must take the CIT class with a renewal every two years.
